Online hunting


Vienna presented an interesting dilemma. How does one cactus meet new plant life in a German speaking-early-sleeping city with no familiar faces? The gay answer was obvious, hunt online. So this is just what I did. Set up a profile on Gayromeo.com, the local Manhunt/Atraf website, put up some nice yet sexy photos (no nudity for this cac) and waited for the inbox to fill up. Messages poured in from all across the former Austro-Hungarian empire, twinks and bears, muscle queens and closeted heteros. After a careful evaluation of the key elements (face, abs, age, kinky-level, safety) I met some locals who made the visit a much better experience. It's not necessarily about sex, its about finding company in a strange land. My first online date was with a cute tall blond with killer abs and great blue eyes who knew his way in bed but also fixed my laptop. The other guy, a smallish twink, took me to a hidden local gay bar where all the hotties of the hood hide. We had a few Coronas and ended up singing German cover tunes to Shakira and Mika. The third guy was a masculine-looking gender-studies student who showed up with black nail polish and a gave me the most amazing tantric full body massage. Exhausted and hungry from all the pampering and sweating we went to a great Serbian pub and had some spicy dishes only Gypsies could come up with. He also satisfied my unexplained desire to understand what different German dialects are used in Europe today. There are so many ways you can say "Can you move a little? my leg has cramps".

Craiglist is the best resource that a newly arrived New Yorker needs. First to find a place to put your weary head at night, then to find stuff to make the bare carpets more hospitable. Scanning the hundreds of daily adds provide a bizarre kind of entertainment and allows to find real bargains on almost everything. Apartments, desks, TVs or Iguanas. Its all there. I found my apartment this way, I also found all the furniture and appliances for ridiculous prices. How about doing it all at under 1000$? Cool. But I also came across some shameless scams that can leave the unsuspected naive with no money and a returned email. The first scam was actually very amusing. A 1 Br apartment in Chelsea, the nicest and gayest part of town, for 1500 $. Nice. I was striking gold here! The story got interesting when the person who responded to my add claimed to be a women living currently in Greece hence not able to show me the place, only photos. Restart

Two years since my last post. Lazy bastard. No longer in the Empire state but a proud resident of the ever-sunny-yet-quirky Florida. After years in the big apple with occasional expeditions to the sunshine state our little family (two guys and a dog) packed our lives once more and migrated south full time for a fresh start. We survived a painful separation (long story - deserves its own post) and escaped the concrete towers to a new lush land full of trees, water, giant reptiles and Latinos. Having no state tax helped as well. Almost two years later it looks like the smartest choice I made so far in America.
